The family room is an addition to the original house and provided different design opportunities. It had an authentic cobblestone fireplace, natural wood trim, wood window seats and high ceilings. I designed a walnut and maple credenza that ran the length of the only windowless wall. This piece combined storage for audio-video equipment and a desk with hidden filing and printer. This piece also provided visual balance for the brilliant turquoise chenille sofa and velvet chairs across the room.
The living and dining rooms are designed to be feminine and elegant. I selected delicate aqua tones for the carpet and upholstery and replaced the existing portion of the red brick fireplace surrounded with Ming Green marble mosaic tiles. The dining room needed storage, serving space and privacy between the kitchen and dining area. My design solution consisted of a pair of custom cabinets connected by a window seat – storage unit. I worked with a company who specialized in custom wood grills to fabricate the upper cabinets doors and the matching sliding door.
