Artist Retreat
Artist Retreat
details
This room was created for a Decorator Showhouse; fundraiser for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. My first challenge was creating an imaginary client that I would be designing the room for. I envisioned an older gentleman, a retired art professor who now had time to fully indulge his passions for painting, drawing, music, and reading. This room was not his art studio, it was his retreat, his place to relax and be surrounded by the objects he loved and a lifetime of memorabilia.

I wanted this space to have a masculine vibe which was predominantly achieved by the stone colored glazed walls. I did not want the room to be perceived as decorated but instead curated over time with a cultivated point of view.
Furnishings include an original Stickley Day Bed, a tufted English lounge chair, an Austrian Monastery Chair and a desk which I designed and had fabricated by Pioneer Millworks. The antique musical instruments were borrowed from Bernunzio Uptown Music and the Table Lamp was made from an antique French wallpaper roller. I commissioned a local artist to create the large painting inspired by a photo I took while hiking Kaaterskill Falls.
