Cranberry Pond Kitchen

details

Driving down Cranberry Pond Trail, it's easy to feel transported as if on a get-away into the countryside. The main road flows like a woodland hiking trail with homes deeply nestled among the trees. In 1992, my clients purchased several acres and hired an architect to design their unique contemporary home.

The most distinctive feature is the angular juxtapositions that define one room from another in an otherwise open floorplan. The house is modern but warm and earthy, with natural maple floors throughout and built-ins of cherry and teakwood. Progressive for its time, the original kitchen had all white laminate cabinets with no visible hardware. Knowing it was time to upgrade, I added walnut cabinets to the kitchen and mixed in other materials for a truly custom look. Take note of the aluminum-framed sandblasted glass doors; one is a parallel lift door above the coffee area, and the other is a tall cabinet near the kitchen table that stores everyday dishes. The upper cabinets that segue between the kitchen and formal dining room have walnut framed wavy glass doors. The final touch was the open maple boxes to display pieces from the client's pottery collection.
